Looking in the Mirror

What’s harder?  Eating healthy, working out everyday or waking up in the morning and looking in the mirror.  Like millions of American I bet you’ve made a New Years resolution.  Why?  For a majority of Americans it has to do with health and fitness.  Over the past twelve months many of us have spent time looking in the mirror and have found at least one thing that we are not happy with.

What do you see when you look in the mirror? A confident, attractive person who looks pretty good, all things considered?  Or crow’s feet, cellulite and one or more body parts you want to change?

I thought so. The mirror is not a friend to many people.  It can make even the most beautiful feel mildly depressed.  And yet, like a sugary, calorie filled dessert, we find it hard to give up.  So the question is “How do we change what we see in the mirror?”

It will come as no surprise to most of you that Tony Horton is my health and fitness motivator.  So when he talks, I listen.  This is a post that he wrote on the dos and don’ts of health and fitness that I hope everyone will take to heart and start 2012 on the right track.

Tony is the creator of P90X, P90X 2, 10 Minute trainer among others.    He was recently featureed on the Dr. Oz Show (Oct 31st) and numerous television shows and fitness periodicals.  Below is a list of Do’s and Don’ts of Fitness by Tony.  I think that these are great things to start 2012 with and to change the image in the mirror for the better.  You can also check out his book and other stuff at his website TonyHortonsWorld.com .

“Two Lists – Different Outcomes” By Tony Horton

Do it!

1. Workout 5 to 7 days a week for the rest of your life.

2. Hang out with fit, healthy and happy people.

3. Eat fruits, veggies, high fiber whole grains, lean protein and healthy fats 90% of the time.

4. Lighten up, enjoy the journey and don’t be attached to the outcome.

5. Fill The bucket! Live, learn, read, travel.  Get outside of your comfort zone.

6. Get plenty of sleep and manage your stress. Sleep heals – Stress kills!

7. Find your Raison d’etre!

8. Clean house! Keep what you need and give away (don’t sell) everything else.

9. Surround yourself with beauty. Art, flowers, trees. Inside and out.

10. Live in the moment. The past is history. The future a mystery. What’s incredible about right now?

 

Don’t do it!

1. Pointing fingers. Stop the blame game and try on someone else’s shoes once in a while.

2. Manufactured foods, processed food and factory food from a bag, box, bottle or can.

3. Caring what other people think of YOU!

4. Poor health and fitness. Overweight means overwhelmed and it’s a burden on OUR healthcare system.

5. Fear of failure. Failure is learning and learning makes you better – so fail often.

6. Staying Stupid. Ignorance is NOT bliss. As the times change so must you.

7. Addiction. Booze, drugs and bad unhappy people make for a miserable life.

8. Slobs. Pig Pen is no one to aspire to. Vacuum, scrub and polish your world for your own dignity and respect from others.

9. Scatter Brains. Organization gives you the freedom to live the life you want.

10. Behaving like you’re going to live forever. It’s a short ride so get busy!
