Weekly Coach Check-In: July 8th, 2014

Hey TeamInternallyFit,

How is your week been? Did you have a great 4th? I enjoy celebrating the 4th of July with my family: eating (not too much), having our own fireworks show in the yard and attending a local firework shows.

Since I’m a teacher and have my summers off, I try to spend as much time with my kids as possible and also to keep them as active as possible. If you’re like me and always looking for ways to do this, I came across an article that had some really great ideas I want to share with you. Here are a few on the list:

1.)   Water days – The beach, lake, slip’n slide, pool, sprinklers or whatever else you can come up with.

2.)   Family yard games – My girls and I love to play “home run derby” in the back yard. Also since we love to watch “American Ninja Warrior” together they’ve had a great time setting up obstacles in the yard and timing themselves.

3.)   Bike Rides – I usually take my kids on an early morning or late afternoon bike ride through our neighborhood.

4.)   Local Parks – there are several local parks near my home, so I regularly take my kids by one. It great to see them run, jump, climb and swing on all the equipment.

5.)   Farmer’s market – A great trip with the kids is to the local famers market. It’s easier to teach them to eat healthy if they can pick it out themselves, plus it’s a great way to teach them about healthier foods options.

6.)   Hiking trips – You don’t have to live near a hiking trail, just let the kids pack a few snacks and some water, then head out through the woods or just around your neighborhood. My kids love it!!
