My Supplements

Do you really need supplements?  Depending on who you ask you’re probably going to get a variety of answers.  After doing a little research of my own I’ve decided that with my particular workout routine, schedule and goals that supplements are important for me.  You’ll have to decide if it’s right for you.

Here are my current supplements and why I take them.

1.) Shakeology – This has been the cornerstone of my nutrition for almost 5 years now, I haven’t missed a day!  Shakeology is a meal replacement and on most days I use it to replace my lunch at work.  In one glass I’m getting all of my daily servings of fruits and veggies, plenty of protein, super foods and whole foods (not science experiments like other shakes).  My favorite is chocolate, mixed with 10 oz of water, natural peanut butter or PB2, flaxseed and organic raw protein.  It tastes like a chocolate peanut butter milkshake . . . not bad for the healthiest meal of the day.

2.) E&E Endurance and Energy – Awaking up at 4:30 a.m. to workout I usually need a little “pick me up”.  E&E is perfect for my needs.  I don’t want a strong pre-workout drink that’s going to help me to flip cars and turn into a raging beast for an hour, I’m just looking for a “kick” in the morning without all the headaches, jitter and crazy heartbeat, that’s why I chose E&E.  After about 15 to 20 minutes it gives me just what I need to power through my workouts and get great results.

3.) P90X Results and Recovery – After killing my workout my body needs the proper fuel to replenish and rebuild the muscles that I’ve just worked.  P90X Results and Recovery is a high carb post workout drink that I use to maximize my results when I’m finished working out.

4.) BCAA and Glutamine – This is a fairly new supplement for me, I’ve been using it for approximately 3 months. The branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) are leucine, isoleucine, and valine. BCAAs are considered essential amino acids because human beings cannot survive unless these amino acids are present in the diet. BCAA’s are the most abundant amino acid in your muscles. Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in your blood. Glutamine aids your immune system and helps your body recover quickly. Simply put, BCAA’s help you build muscle and Glutamine helps you recover fast.  I like to add this to my Results and Recovery formula.

5.) 100% Pure Creatine – The creatine I prefer is in powder form with no flavors or artificial ingredients, I typically mix it with my pre-workout.  Why do I use creatine?  It increases the body’s ability to produce energy rapidly. With more energy, you can train harder and more often, producing faster results.  Defiantly a must for someone like myself who just turned 40 as muscle decreases with age.
