When I started P90x I had been looking for over 2 years for answers to my fitness and weight problems.  I had been lifting heavy and eating junk for over 10 years.  My stlye of choice was powerlifting.  At the time powerlifting best fit my fitness goals of getting really strong and shorter workout times.  My usual routines consisted of bench, squat, deadlifts and cleans with auxillary exercieses mixed in.  After years of abusing my body with a powerlifting style I began to realize that my body was not holding up.  Constant back, shoulder, neck and elbow problems made me realize I could not continue with this style of lifting.  For the next two years I tried every kind of workout I could find in book, magazines and the internet, but my weight continued to increase and I countinued to fell unhealthy and out of shape.  Like most people I watched the p90x commericals night after night without buying.  My first thought was I don’t want to workout at home, next its too expensive and thirdly, It looks really, really hard.  As a school teacher and high school football coach I spent alot of time working with athletes to improve their strenght and condittioning.  While talking with one of my students he informed me that he had bought P90X but was not going to try it until the end of the year because of football.  So I asked to borrow it until he decided to use it.  At that moment my life changed forever.  Not only did I enjoy the workouts but I made a lifestyle change in my nutrition and fitness.  After round one I bought my own copy and have been doing P90X for over 2 years now.
