Workout Hybrids

So you’ve finished P90X, Turbo Fire, Insanity, Chalean Extreme, or any other of the Beachbody workouts.  Now What?  How about completing a hybrid?  What is a hybrid?  A hybrid is where you take two or more Beachbody workouts and combine them together to make you own extreme workout!!  For example, when I finished 3 rounds of P90x I was ready for a change, so I bought Insanity.  After completing 60 days of Insanity I was ready to lift weight again, but I loved the Inanity workouts.  I just took the cardio and stretch days in P90 X and replaced them with Insanity workouts on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.  Boom!! a P90X/Insanity hybrid. 

I’ve done several hybrid versions that I will share with you below.

P90X Mass Building Hybrid:  I put on 9lbs of muscle with this monster. LOL  I looked at previous workout sheets and determined what weight I would need to keep my reps at between 6 to 8.  On exercises that don’t necessarily use weight, like push ups I did two things.  First, I did really slow push ups, usually 8 to 10 reps.  Secondly, I used a bench and did really heavy dumbbell flys on certain push up exercises.

One of the best parts of this workout was that I got to eat . . . a lot!!  During the three months that I completed this hybrid I consumed approximately 3600 calories a day on lift days, 3400 on cardio days and 3200 on ab only days.  I used a 50% carb/30% protein/20% fat split to make sure that I was getting the proper nutrition.  During all of my workouts, including my hybrids I ate a clean diet to fuel my muscles for growth and to give me the energy I needed to get through the workout.

Day 2 – Rotated between Plyometric Cardio Circuit/Cardio Power and Resistance/Pure Cardio (All from Insanity) and Asylum workouts

Day 3 – Shoulders and Arms

Day 4 – Killer Abs (1 on 1 with Tony Horton) or Insane Abs

Day 5 – Legs and Back

Day 6 – Rotated between Plyometric Cardio Circuit/Cardio Power and Resistance/Pure Cardio (All from Insanity) and Asylum workouts

Day 7 – Killer Abs (1 on 1 with Tony Horton) or Insane Abs

Week 4, 8, 12 (Recovery Weeks)

Regular P90X recovery week

Weeks 5, 6 and 7

Day 1 – Chest, Shoulders and Triceps

Day 2 –  Rotated between Plyometric Cardio Circuit/Cardio Power and Resistance/Pure Cardio (All from Insanity) and Asylum workouts

Day 3 – Back and Biceps

Day 4 – Killer Abs (1 on 1 with Tony Horton) or Insane Abs

Day 5 – Legs and Back

Day 6 – Rotated between Plyometric Cardio Circuit/Cardio Power and Resistance/Pure Cardio (All from Insanity) and Asylum workouts

Day 7 – Killer Abs (1 on 1 with Tony Horton) or Insane Abs

Weeks 9 and 11
